Objective: To study the anti-hyperglycaemic and analgesic activity of the ischolar_main extracts of Chlorophytum borivilianum Sant. & Ferz. on rats and mice respectively. Materials and methods: Anti-hyperglycaemic activity of the methanol extract of the ischolar_mains (100mg & 200mg/kg body weight, p.o.) was evaluated by using both normoglycaemic and alloxan induced hyperglycemic rats of six numbers in a group. The analgesic activity was assessed by using methanol extract of the ischolar_mains (100mg & 200mg/kg body weight, p.o.) on mice of six numbers in a group by Tail flick and Tail immersion method. Results: The methanol extract was found to produce significant reduction of blood glucose concentration between 2-4 hr. of administration in alloxan induced hyperglycemic rats at tested dose levels. However, in normoglycaemic animals, the extract at 200mg/kg produced significant reduction of blood glucose between 2-4 hr. of administration. In the analgesic study, the ischolar_main extract showed significant activity. In tail flick method the extract at 100mg/kg showed activity after 45 minutes whereas in tail immersion test, it showed significant activity after 30 minutes interval. Conclusion: Chlorophytum borivilianum Sant. & Ferz. has hypoglycaemic activity and analgesic activity. So it can be recommended for further studies. Keywords

Herbal drugs are already in vouge as therapeutic agents for thousands of years but in present times there is a need to re-valuate their clinical efficacy. Some times different herbs are known by same name; also a large number of plants are collected from wild sources like forests and waste places through unskilled labour for which it is not always possible to differentiate the plant species taxonomically. Thus, the identity and quality of the drug is compromised. Aerva lanta (A.l.) is a glaring example, which is adulterated by Aerva tomentosa (A.t.) having same family amaranthaceae. Aerva lanata commonly known as Bui-Kallan (Pb.) have nearly same synonym, as that of Aerva tomentosa, Boikallan (Pb.).Both are used in the traditional system of medicine as diuretic. Till yet no comparison has been made for their diuretic activity. Hence, we compared the diuretic effect of ethanolic extract of aerial parts of Aerva lanata and Aerva tomentosa. Keywords
